The Mission

Bed Stuy Clothes Swap is a community-based safety net for NYC residents that specifically centers the residents of Bed-Stuy. We aim to collectively move against the grain of New York’s hyper-capitalist systems that encourage over-consumption and the destruction of our environment, displace long-term community members, and exploit and subjugate our Black and Brown communities.

The Space

We wish to collectively create a space in Bed-Stuy where sustainable fashion and community meet. We aim to go beyond the albeit necessary provision of a space for community members to care for each other by swapping clothes- and we do so by uplifting the stories of community members and by providing spaces to examine our relationship to consumption, sustainability, clothes, letting go and most importantly, building community.

The People

Our swap is a mindful movement that centers the emotional, physical, and economic well-being of people of color. Bed Stuy goes through changes, we strive to provide a sanctuary for creators of all sorts and highlight the importance of sustainable fashion. We welcome small businesses, musicians, artists, stylists and everyone in between to collaborate with and/or highlight in our various media platforms and events.

Community Rules

Platinum Rule: Respect and treat others the way they want to be treated.

  1. Look out for and be kind to each other.

  2. Any racist, classist, sexist, anti-Black, ableist, body shaming, homophobic and/or transphobic behavior, or harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. If your behavior is found to be disruptive, you will be asked to leave.

  3. Take note of people’s personal space as you move about the space.

  4. Be mindful of the trans, GNC & femme folks around you and how they’re experiencing the space.

  5. Acknowledge intent / Address impact - Assume that others are speaking and acting from a place of good intent. At the same time, if our actions negatively impact others, we must take responsibility for that impact.

  6. Have fun!
